My Favourite Shopping Bags – Envirosax

I stumbled upon the Envirosax reusable bags when I was rolling around endlessly in a shopping centre 5 or 6 years ago when my baby would only sleep longer than 40 minutes if she was in a place with lots of ambient sound.

There was  lovely window display with the bags and beautiful prints.  The price wasn’t super cheap but I was sold on the prints and the quality and its claim to hold up to 18kg and was water resistant.

In small ways I was becoming more environmentally conscious and was already using cloth nappies with my baby.

Over the years I have really fallen in love with these little bags and tend to carry a few with me everywhere I go.

Why these bags are my favourite.

My bag collection over 5 years. The prints are irresistible.

1 – They look GREAT.

Even if I am in my slobbo clothes – these bags will dress up any outfit. The prints are lovely and fresh.  I don’t like how other cheapy brands have awful twee flower patterns or weird characters.

2 – They hold A LOT.

In both weight and volume. I love that if I am out and the kids get hot and take off their jackets, hats etc – I can just unfurl a bag and shove all their stuff in one and either hang it off a pram or sling it over my shoulder.

When at the supermarket – holding a bunch of heavy plastic bags in your hands while trying to keep a hold of young kids is agony.  Spreading the groceries between bags and simply hanging them off both shoulders spreads the load and leaves my hands free to deal with kids, keys and my sanity.

3 – The handles are long enough to hang off your shoulders.

Unless you have some serious beefcake shoulders, the bag fits on the shoulder. – This is one of the TOP pluses to this bag. I can put it on the shoulder and swing the weight to the back and out the way.

4 – They fold to tiny packets and weigh near nothing.

I normally have a pack of 3 in my bag and since they fit so much I don’t need the store bags most of the time. Which in turn cuts down on waste and collates my shopping for easy carrying. I would much rather carry one of these than four small bags.

5 – They are good quality.

I have never weighed the amount I’ve put in there but it can handle 4 litres of milk, 1kg of pork mince, crackers and some scrubbing brushes with no problems. I have put in more but since I have so many bags I normally spread the load as I want my bags to last. The stitching is strong and the material is water resistant.  I even put the meat packs in these bags and vegies straight in (not normally mixed) and if there is a little spillage – I throw the bag into a laundry bag and wash.

Things to note:

While I LOVE these bags, I  don’t normally use these for my grocery shop as I like to have a flat base and slightly stiffer material.  I also use cooler bags to organise my cold items. I find the normal recycled bags better for this purpose as it sits upright in the trolley.  But having said that, there has been many a time when Ive done an unexpected shop and relied on these envirosax as they are WAY better than the single use plastic bags.

So if you need something to have a flat base and stand upright, you’ll need to look elsewhere.

While these bags are strong, they do not take kindly to being dragged along the ground especially bitumen as my child did with her library bag but then I think most bags would have a hard time with that. 🙂

The kids range of bags are slightly smaller but still super useful and there’s plenty of room for more books than a child can carry.
